The MG TF 120 Stepspeed combined the compact proportions of MG’s mid-engine roadster with the convenience of an automatic transmission. Its low-slung two-seat body, open-top design and rear-mid engine layout preserved the engaging character of the TF range, while the continuously variable transmission offered a more relaxed alternative to the manual versions. With double-wishbone front suspension and a multi-link rear setup, the Stepspeed balanced everyday usability with the agile handling expected from a lightweight British sports roadster.
The 2002–2011 MG F / TF 120 Stepspeed uses a naturally aspirated 1.8-liter inline-four producing 118 hp and 122 lb-ft of torque. A continuously variable automatic transmission sends power to the rear wheels, with 0–60 mph taking 9.9 seconds and 0–62 mph taking 10.2 seconds. Top speed reaches 118 mph, while its 2,480-pound curb weight and two-seat layout maintain the compact, driver-focused character of this distinctive MG roadster.
