The 2001 MG F / TF 160SE represented the most performance-focused version of MG's compact F roadster, combining lightweight construction with a high-revving naturally aspirated engine and a mid-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout. Its compact two-seat body, low stance and open-top design emphasized the traditional sports-roadster experience, while the rear-mid engine placement helped give the car a balanced character through corners. As a limited high-performance evolution of the F, the 160SE added extra pace without abandoning the lightweight simplicity that defined the model.
The 2001 MG F / TF 160SE uses a naturally aspirated 1.8-liter inline-four producing 158 hp and 128 lb-ft of torque. A five-speed manual transmission sends power to the rear wheels, with 0–60 mph taking 6.8 seconds and 0–62 mph taking 7.0 seconds. Top speed reaches 137 mph, while its 2,359-pound curb weight helps deliver an engaging combination of acceleration, agility and classic British roadster character.
