The original TT Roadster 1.8 T 180 brought Audi’s radical rounded design into an open-top sports car with a compact turbocharged engine and front-wheel drive. Covering 1999–2005, its 1.8-liter 20-valve inline-four produced 178 hp and 173 lb-ft, paired with a five-speed manual. A 138-mph top speed and 7.6-second 0–60 mph time gave the lightweight roadster enough pace for spirited driving while keeping the mechanical package relatively simple.

The Roadster’s appeal came as much from its distinctive design as its performance. A two-seat cabin, compact dimensions and 7.8-cubic-foot luggage area made it a practical companion, while MacPherson-strut front suspension, multi-link rear suspension and ventilated front brakes supported the front-driven chassis.
