Audi’s second-generation TT Roadster became more efficient without losing the clean, compact character that defined the nameplate. The 2008–2014 1.8 TFSI used a direct-injected 1.8-liter turbocharged four-cylinder producing 158 hp and 184 lb-ft, with a six-speed manual sending power to the front wheels. Its 139-mph top speed and 7.2-second 0–60 mph acceleration gave the Roadster enough pace for everyday performance, while the smaller engine brought a useful reduction in fuel consumption compared with the larger petrol options.

The appeal of this version was its balanced engineering rather than outright aggression. MacPherson-strut front suspension worked with a multi-link rear arrangement, while ventilated front and solid rear discs supported the lightweight 2,998-pound roadster. The two-seat cabin and 8.8-cubic-foot luggage compartment also made it more practical than its low-slung profile suggested. With direct injection, turbocharging and a transverse front-engine layout, the 1.8 TFSI represented Audi’s move toward smaller, more efficient powertrains while preserving the TT’s open-air character.
