The 2009–2011 Lotus Exige S 260 pushed the lightweight Exige concept toward even greater performance while retaining the compact proportions and sharp handling that defined the model. Its two-seat coupe body, rear-mid engine placement, and rear-wheel-drive layout keep the car focused on driver involvement rather than comfort or practicality. Lotus achieved much of its performance through low mass and careful engineering, allowing the Exige to remain agile while gaining considerably more power from its compact engine.
A supercharged 1.8-liter four-cylinder produces 256 hp and 174 lb-ft, paired with a six-speed manual transmission and rear-wheel drive. With a curb weight of about 2,046 lb, it reaches 152 mph and accelerates from 0–60 mph in roughly 4.0 seconds. The combination of low weight, forced induction, and mid-engine balance gives the Exige S 260 an exceptionally focused character, with its performance built around responsiveness rather than brute force.
