The Aston Martin Virage Volante brought the character of the Virage grand tourer into an open-top format, combining traditional Aston Martin craftsmanship with a powerful naturally aspirated V8. For 1992–1994, the 2+2 convertible used a 5.3-liter V8 producing 306 hp and 354 lb-ft of torque, with its power sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transmission. A 155 mph top speed and 7.2-second 0–62 mph time gave the Volante genuine long-distance performance, while the front-engine layout and substantial proportions preserved the relaxed character expected from a luxury grand tourer rather than turning it into a lightweight sports car.

The Volante's appeal came from its combination of open-air touring and serious mechanical hardware.
