The 1997–1999 Lancia Ypsilon 1.1 offered a simple and compact interpretation of Lancia’s small hatchback formula. Its distinctive three-door body, Italian styling and front-wheel-drive layout made it well suited to urban driving, while the four-seat cabin provided useful practicality within its small dimensions. The naturally aspirated engine kept the powertrain straightforward, giving the Ypsilon an easygoing character focused on everyday city use rather than outright performance.
The 1997–1999 Ypsilon 1.1 uses a naturally aspirated 1.1-liter inline-four producing 53 hp and 63 lb-ft of torque. A five-speed manual transmission sends power to the front wheels, with 0–60 mph taking 14.5 seconds and top speed reaching 93 mph. Its combination of compact dimensions, front-wheel drive and four-seat layout gave the Ypsilon 1.1 a practical foundation for everyday urban driving.
