MSRP:$16,000 – $22,000
The 2007 Jeep Wrangler 2.8 CRD stayed true to the Wrangler’s rugged, compact off-road character, but its diesel engine gave the familiar formula a distinctly torque-focused personality. With a traditional part-time four-wheel-drive system, live axles at both ends, and a longitudinal engine layout, it was built around mechanical simplicity and traction rather than crossover-style refinement. Its two-door body also kept the Wrangler close to its original adventure-focused identity.
For 2007–2011, the Wrangler 2.8 CRD uses a turbocharged 2.8-liter inline-four diesel producing 175 hp and 302 lb-ft of torque. Power reaches all four wheels through either a five-speed automatic or six-speed manual transmission. The Wrangler reaches 112 mph and accelerates from 0–60 mph in 10.8 seconds, while its 23.7 mpg combined economy gives the diesel-powered off-roader a practical edge.
