The 2011 Jeep Wrangler 2.8 CRD kept the Wrangler’s compact, unmistakably rugged character while pairing its traditional off-road hardware with a torque-focused diesel engine. Its three-door body and 95.4-inch wheelbase kept it relatively compact, while live axles front and rear and part-time four-wheel drive reinforced its trail-oriented engineering. The turbocharged diesel also gave this Wrangler a different character from its gasoline-powered counterparts, emphasizing low-rpm torque and practical efficiency.
For 2011–2018, the Wrangler 2.8 CRD uses a turbocharged 2.8-liter inline-four diesel producing 197 hp and 340 lb-ft of torque. Power is delivered through 4WD, with either a 5-speed automatic or 6-speed manual transmission. It reaches 107 mph and accelerates from 0–60 mph in 10.3 seconds, while its 33.1 mpg combined economy gives the diesel-powered Wrangler an efficiency advantage alongside its traditional four-wheel-drive hardware.
