1956, 1957, 1958
MSRP:$180,000 – $300,000
The Porsche 356 A 1600 Super Speedster captured the appeal of a stripped-back sports car, with its low windscreen, open cockpit, and compact proportions creating a more intimate driving experience than the enclosed 356 coupé. The Speedster concept favoured simplicity and driver involvement over elaborate comfort features, while the Super designation brought a more potent engine to this lightweight roadster. Its understated appearance concealed a meaningful performance upgrade, making it an appealing choice for enthusiasts who wanted classic Porsche character in a more spirited open-top form.
For the 1956–1958 range, the Super Speedster used a naturally aspirated 1.6-litre flat-four producing 74 hp and 86 lb-ft of torque. Its four-speed manual transmission put the driver in direct control of the available power, while rear-wheel drive preserved the traditional 356 layout. With a claimed top speed of 109 mph, this version offered a stronger performance profile than the standard 1600 Speedster without losing the compact, uncomplicated character that defined the model.
