The Mercedes 190 D 2.5 Turbo brought a distinctive combination of compact sedan practicality and turbocharged diesel performance to the W201 range. Its four-door body and five-seat cabin retained the everyday usability expected from a Mercedes-Benz sedan, while the longitudinal front-engine layout and rear-wheel drive gave it the traditional mechanical character of the 190. The turbocharged five-cylinder diesel also added stronger performance than the naturally aspirated diesel models, making this version an interesting blend of efficiency, durability and understated road presence.
The 1986–1988 Mercedes 190 D 2.5 Turbo uses a turbocharged 2.5-liter inline-five diesel producing 120 hp and 166 lb-ft of torque. A four-speed automatic transmission sends power to the rear wheels, with 0–60 mph taking 11.1 seconds and 0–62 mph taking 11.5 seconds. Top speed reaches 119 mph, giving the compact sedan a balanced combination of diesel torque, rear-wheel-drive dynamics and practical everyday usability.
