The Mercedes 190 continued its role as Mercedes-Benz’s compact executive sedan through the late 1980s, combining clean, understated styling with the solid engineering that defined the W201 generation. Its four-door body and five-seat cabin provided everyday practicality, while the longitudinal front-engine layout and rear-wheel drive delivered the composed mechanical character associated with Mercedes-Benz. This version retained the straightforward character of the original 190 while benefiting from the model’s continued development during its later production years.
The 1988–1991 Mercedes 190 uses a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter inline-four producing 101 hp and 118 lb-ft of torque. A four-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission sends power to the rear wheels, with 0–60 mph taking 12.0 seconds and 0–62 mph taking 12.4 seconds. Top speed reaches 115 mph, giving the compact sedan a balanced combination of smooth four-cylinder performance, rear-wheel-drive dynamics and everyday practicality.
