The Mercedes 190 E 2.6 brought smooth six-cylinder power to the compact W201 sedan, combining understated styling with the refinement expected from a Mercedes-Benz executive car. Its four-door body and five-seat cabin retained the practicality of the 190 range, while the front-mounted longitudinal engine and rear-wheel-drive layout gave it a classic mechanical character. The 2.6-liter version offered a stronger performance profile than the smaller four-cylinder models without sacrificing the comfortable, balanced nature of the W201.
The 1986–1988 Mercedes 190 E 2.6 uses a naturally aspirated 2.6-liter inline-six producing 164 hp and 168 lb-ft of torque. A five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission sends power to the rear wheels, with 0–60 mph taking 7.9 seconds and 0–62 mph taking 8.2 seconds. Top speed reaches 134 mph, giving the compact sedan a refined combination of smooth six-cylinder performance, rear-wheel-drive balance and everyday practicality.
