The 1990 Mercedes 190 E 2.5-16 Evolution II represented the ultimate development of the performance-focused W201, combining compact sedan proportions with a highly tuned naturally aspirated engine and a motorsport-inspired character. Its four-door body and five-seat cabin retained the practicality of the 190, while the aggressive Evolution II specification, rear-wheel drive and high-revving 16-valve engine gave it a far more focused personality. Created with Mercedes-Benz’s competition ambitions in mind, the Evolution II became one of the most iconic performance sedans of its era.
The 1990 Mercedes 190 E 2.5-16 Evolution II uses a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter inline-four producing 232 hp and 181 lb-ft of torque. A five-speed manual transmission sends power to the rear wheels, with 0–60 mph taking 6.9 seconds and 0–62 mph taking 7.1 seconds. Top speed reaches 155 mph, giving the Evolution II an impressive combination of compact dimensions, rear-wheel-drive balance and motorsport-inspired performance.
